Inspiration for the name Sugarpuss Beauty came from the 1941 film "Ball of Fire" in which Barbara Stanwyck plays a burlesque dancer called Sugarpuss O'Shea… who is full of moxie! As described in the film, “Sugarpuss” is slang that “denotes a sweetness to one's face” - it’s the opposite of sourpuss.

Sugarpuss Beauty Petite Spa specializes in and promotes beauty, starting from the inside out. Sugarpuss believes in natural, organic products & the rituals they inspire. Take the time to love yourself!

Stephanie June JohnsoN | makeup artisT & Esthetician

Stephanie June Johnson began her beauty industry journey in 1998 when she studied in Los Angeles as a professional makeup artist at the prestigious Makeup Designory. She loved living in LA in her 20s, working various makeup jobs, swing dancing & of course, waitressing!

After moving back to Portland (which, at the time, didn’t have much film/tv production) from Los Angeles, Stephanie went to beauty school & became an esthetician. She started Sugarpuss Beauty in 2006 by operating out of two popular NE Portland salons for 6 years. Stephanie honed her skills as an esthetician & salon manager. When the time was right she opened her own shop on Alberta Street in 2012 called Sugarpuss Beauty Petite Spa. Stephanie maintains the level of quality she developed in past years and displays it two fold in the products she has chosen to carry in her shop & bear her name.

In addition to running Sugarpuss all these years, Stephanie has also been working in film & tv. It seems “The Biz” followed her up from LA! Her credits include Wild, The Librarians, Grimm, Twilight, Leverage, Portlandia, The Perfectionists, et al. [IMDB.COM/SJJ] She loves working both jobs - sometimes at the same time - even when that means she works 6 days a week.

On her down time, Stephanie enjoys gardening, all things Scotland, animals of all shapes & sizes including her cat Flora, adventures in the outdoors, time with her family & volunteering with organizations that fight for equity & equality in the BIPOC community.

"You know the expression "big things come in small packages", well Sugarpuss Beauty exemplifies this statement, & in this case, this small package delivers beauty, elegance, & it's 100% home grown! Stephanie, much like her salon, is true diamond in the rough. Her style & sense of self are comforting, & she has a unique ability to make each client feel like a princess. I suppose some of this is due to her extensive background in film working as a make-up artist on "Twilight", "Extraordinary Measures", & "Restless". She continues to work on the locally filmed TNT television series "Leverage". Stephanie received formal training in make-up artistry at the Make-Up Designory in Los Angeles & she completed her aesthetics training at the International Beauty School in Portland. She is well known for her brow shaping techniques and was honored in the top ten for facial and waxing services by Citysearch in 2008 and 2009." - FashionFairPDX.com on 1/17/11
